What material do we use?

We use microcement - a type of cement that, when mixed with high strength and durability polymers, provides a smooth yet extremely tough coating of 2-3mm thickness.

To this we add ground marble, quartz and other aggregates that enable a variety of different effects.

One of the main advantages of microcement is the number of colours that exist for its application, and the different shades within each colour. This means we can replicate the look of soft, polished stone, highly reflective gloss, or bold, contemporary patterns.

Microcement is more flexible, waterproof and durable than cast concrete, which means it can be applied smoothly across tiles, wood or any existing surface - from industrial, retail and factory floors to domestic worktops and bathrooms, kitchens and ceilings.

Benefits at a glance

Microcement is becoming an incredibly popular alternative to marble, granite, tiles, or linoleum. It is:

  • Versatile
  • Hardwearing
  • Breathable
  • Fire resistant
  • Non-slip
  • Doesn't need waxing or coating
  • Can be applied to any surface
  • Low maintenance

What's the process?

First of all, we'll discuss the project with you and visit the site to understand the brief in detail. Then we’ll produce sample boards, giving you the chance to review and feedback until we get the desired finish.

We'll then get to work on prepping and applying the material, which happens roughly as below:

  1. The existing surface is levelled and primed
  2. A 2mm basecoat is applied into which fibreglass reinforcement is embedded
  3. A second coat of microcement is applied, incorporating the colour and design over the surface
  4. Two finer coats of microcement are applied
  5. The floor is left to cure
  6. The floor is then polished from 100grit, to 500grit
  7. A sealer coat and varnish are applied
  8. When completely hard, the varnish is buffed to give a rich, deep finish, ultramatt, gloss or low sheen.

How do we work?

We offer a number of different ways of working depending on the scale of the project.

For example, if you're a domestic client, we can manufacture some surfaces (such as flooring) in panels off site, which means we can install them with minimum disruption to your home.

We also have the ability to work with subcontractors to deliver large-scale projects, using our artistic skills and product knowledge.

How do you look after it?

Microcement is extremely durable and resilient.

In terms of aftercare, sealed microcement is impermeable and needs no more than warm (mildly) soapy water to clean it. We recommend avoiding harsh products in order to maintain the lifespan of your surface.
